Christmas passed without a fallen snowflake at Go Daddy’s Arizona headquarters, as the former supporter of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) watched tens of thousands of customers flee its business. The Domains, a web analytics blog, reported on Christmas Eve that customers moved 37,000 domains off of Go Daddy’s service in two days, and by the next day, another 28,000 had bailed. …

Global Domain Registrations Continue to Grow at a Rapid Clip – Up Over 8% From a Year Ago

Verisign has released their latest quarterly Domain Name Industry covering the 3rd quarter of 2011. The new report shows domain registrations worldwide continued to grow at a steady clip as the quarter closed with just under 220 million domains registered across all TLDs – a jump of over 8%. ccTLDs regs rose even more.

Them’s fightin’ words! Well this is getting interesting. Earlier this month a Texas court ordered ICANN to stay a UDRP case for FunnyGames.com. ICANN responded by saying that it had no authority to stay a UDRP proceeding and that the court had no jurisdiction to order it to do so. The court disagreed

I know the title to this post is lame, but I really can’t come up with anything better to describe this new program. It’s really, really bad.

I’ve always been a fan of ccTLDs that represent the world’s major economies, including France’s .fr. I’ve reported a lot of good .fr sales through the years but due to strict Nexus rules could never register .fr domains.

In planned testimony for today’s hearing about new TLDs in the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology on new TLDs, Council of Better Business Bureaus IP attorney Anjali Hansen said her group should have had first dibs on the domain name BBB: Even more astounding was the fact that ICM Registry refused to accept CBBB’s registration of its most famous trademark “BBB” because ICM was allowed to reserve bbb.xxx as a premium name that it can later auction off to the highest bidder. We could not even defensively purchase our own trademark. Hmm. I’m sure the American Automobile Association would love first dibs on aaa.xxx as well.

Sorry domainers, but Microsoft’s study has nothing to do with domains

Study is about brand loyalty to certain web sites, not the quality of a domain name. A study by Microsoft over “domain bias” in searches is making the rounds today. Unfortunately I think domainers are misinterpreting what it says. I’m even going to disagree with Michael Berkens on the importance of this one. The study is titled “Domain Bias in Web Search” and it shows that people are more likely to click on listings associated with certain domain names.
