International Domains: The Brave New World Map Of URL Shorteners

The .ly in bit.ly, after all, is the top-level domain (TLD) reflecting the country code for Libya. The country controls the TLD (though not all access to the domain); any .ly domain that’s purchased is money going to Libya.

Matt Cutts: .Co Not Just for Colombia

Matt Cutts reconfirms that .co doesn’t have to be targeted to Colombia. Despite Google clearly stating that you can opt to have your .co domain treated not just as a Colombia targeted domain, people have still spread the false notion that this isn’t the case. Matt Cutts has posted a video in his popular video series stating that, indeed, you can target your .co web site to a different location from inside your Google Webmaster account

[Updated] ICANN Sends Breach Notice to EuroDNS Over Facebook UDRP

ICANN threatens EuroDNS if it fails to transfer domain name to Facebook. ICANN has sent a Notice of Breach ( pdf ) to popular European domain name registrar EuroDNS for its failure to transfer a client domain name after an adverse UDRP decision. In September 2010 a EuroDNS client lost a UDRP for Facebok.com (with one ‘o’), which is certainly a common typo for the popular social network.
