Sex.co Gets Close to 11k Visits Per Month

Domain up for auction gets solid traffic. About a year ago the owners of Sex.co put the domain up for sale on Sedo and started parking it there, too. Now that the domain name is up for sale in next month’s TRAFFIC auction, I figured I’d check in on the domain to see what sort of traffic it gets. According to the Sedo listing page, the site got about 10,800 visits over the past 31 days. Given the number of visits to the Sedo listing page you have to wonder if some of those visits are from other domainers.

Domaining.com’s CAX.com to Start Rewarding Bidders

Early bidders will earn cash back. Francois Carrillo, the guy behind Domaining.com , is getting ready to launch a new cash back program for bidding on his CAX.com domain marketplace. The program will reward both the initial bidder in an auction and the second highest bidder with 2% of the sales price. For example, if you are the first bidder and three people bid in an auction but you don’t win, you’ll get 2% of the sales price. If you’re the first bidder in an auction that only attracts two total bidders, you’ll actually get 4% — 2% for being the first bidder and 2% for having the second highest bid.

SnapNames is one of the most active auction and expiring domain marketplaces. Follow these steps to modify the search parameters. This will help you narrow the results and quickly find short .com domains.

Uncheck unwanted TLDs
Check the boxes to remove hyphens, numbers and IDNs
Input max characters as 5
Set results per page to 500

After scrolling past a limited selection of four letter domains, you will begin to see the big list of five letter domains with the potential to be acquired.

Sedo Down for the Count

While researching for this article I was surprised to encounter difficulty finding short domains at Sedo, the world’s largest domain marketplace. The new search user interface is now using sliders and the option to define a maximum character limit is no longer present. Additionally, the Sedo inventory is not working correctly on FreshDrop.

Update: I may have encountered a bug when trying Sedo. The ‘Domain Length’ option slider now works to search for domains with a maximum of 5 characters.

Size of bidding scandal becomes clear. A document filed today ( pdf ) in a lawsuit against Oversee.net and Snapnames shows that the total loss to U.S. customers from the bidding scandal was about $1 million, including interest. The total damages for all customers can be extrapolated to be about $2.0 million.

Pool.com to Auction 2 Character .Biz Domains

On the heels of the recent 1 character .biz domain and 2 character .de domain auctions at Sedo , domain auction house Pool.com announced yesterday that they have teamed up with Neustar to auction off more than 1000 two character .biz domains. The domains will be made available in a phased release beginning November 30, 2009 through February 2010. Two character domains, which were previously unavailable, include names like PC.Biz, IT.biz and IP.biz. SnapNames Employee Bid in Companys own Domain Auctions

A Snapnames employee was caught bidding in the company’s own doain auctions leading to some big issues with how the company is handling its auctions. The clean up process is underway and many domains will soon see a rebate in auctions they were involved in that may have been bid up resulting in shill bidding.

Nelson Brady - Former VP of Engineering at Snapnaes

The Snapnames employee, Nelson Brady VP of Engineerings for Snapnames is accused of shill bidding dating back as far as 2005. He was operating under the name of Halvarez had already been been involved in bidding up SnapNames auctions for about two years. This behavior is against Snapnames policies and say that it i possible that his involvement in shill bidding continued for two more years before they finally discovered the fraud and made it public in a letter to their customers today. Here is a copy of the letter released to its customers.

Brady was fired on Monday October 26th. This will definitely leave a bad taste in domainers mouths when dealing in auctions for quite some time. Its possible Nelson is involved in bidding up as many as 50,000 domain name auctions over the past years. Snapnames is taking a proactive approach and reviewing any and all of the auctions that Nelson was involved in with his ficticious bidding and offering a rebate to customers involved in the auction with a 5.22% interest on top. If you were a domainer involved in any of these auctions affected be sure to expect contact from Snapnames. The rebate will be given in form of cash or credit to be used within their system.

Snapnames did make a wise and professional decision to release the news to the public and taking the approach to compensate their customers.
