Is it just me or is the ICANN plan to corral online porn going terribly wrong? We already have reports that universities are snapping up XXX domains in an effort to get ahead of porn pranksters who want to besmirch a few good online names with smut.

The ads tell visitors to visit www.Buy.xxx, where you’ll find a list of accredited registrars who will sell you a .xxx domain name. But many of those registrars have already closed their queues for the first few hours of today’s launch. Some of them had a deadline of yesterday to pre-order domains

Schumacher, who will continue to serve on Sedo’s Board, cited personal reasons for stepping down but he is expected to get more involved with start-up businesses. Tobias Flaitz will take over as CEO.

The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. Moniker/SnapNames claimed the top spot on the all extension Top 20 Chart after closing a big mid six-figure sale of Answer.com. It is the sixth biggest sale reported so far in 2011. 14 .com and 6 ccTLDs made the elite list while the non .com gTLDs were shut out.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State has purchased some Internet domains to block their usage by the adult entertainment industry. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which oversees the Internet’s naming system, in March approved the .xxx domain for pornographic websites.
