Trademark office sends office action to PING Golf brand owner. On Wednesday I posted a list of 115 trademark applications that could be related to new top level domains, along with their current status. The USPTO has a policy of not granting trademarks on top level domains, and the number of “speculative” trademark applications has ballooned as ICANN gets ready to expand the TLD universe

WIPO gives Twitter popular typo Twittr.com

Twitter gets typo of its Twitter.com domain name. A World Intellectual Property Organization panel has awarded Twitter the domain name Twittr.com in a uniform domain name dispute resolution policy (UDRP) proceeding. Twittr.com was originally registered before Twitter’s “first use in commerce” date on its trademark for “Twitter”.

Wow: Judge orders UDRP transfers, including Apple typo, to be reversed

We do things differently in Texas. District Judge Royal Furgeson has ordered ( pdf ) that World Intellectual Property Organization cases from as early as 2010 be overturned and ordered a number of domain names now owned by Apple and Public storage be transferred back to the typosquatter that previously owned them. Yes, you read that correctly

ICANN says it’s done three pilot rounds of top level domain expansion. A frequent complaint about ICANN’s new top level domain plans in recent months is the scale, with numerous groups asking ICANN to run a pilot program. But in response to an FTC query, ICANN has faced this issue head on by pointing out something obvious: it has already run “pilot” rounds.

Google wins 37 of 50 typo domain names. Google has won rights to 37 typo domain names of its YouTube brand, but it won’t be happy with the results.
